Incident Response & Information System Overview

Event/Emergency Management

IRIS is an innovative system for establishing direct two-way communications with customers during roadway closures or other emergencies. With a simple dashboard, staff can log in and instantly activate a dynamic website, a text messaging system, and a phone system for communications. IRIS also integrates with federal wireless emergency alert systems (i.e. IPAWS). In areas with poor cell coverage, IRIS Tactical Devices can be used to create hotspots for accessing the system.

Benefits for the Organization

  • Clearer picture of the locations of customers impacted by the event
  • Better demographic (and survey) information about customers involved in the event
  • First-hand information from effected customers
  • Familiar technologies
  • Coverage in dead zones with IRIS tactical devices
  • Minimal staff interaction required
  • Simple interaction for mass notifications - for both pre-registered and on-demand users
  • Reduce the number of calls to customer service center

Benefits for the Customer

  • Official updates and latest relevant information delivered in the method most convenient for the customer (phone call, text message, visit web page)
  • No need to comb through social media postings to find current and accurate information
  • The message-response sequence assures that the organization is aware of each customer's location and status throughout the event
  • Automated status update reminders prompt the organization to remain aware of customer status

Create a New Event

The operator draws a boundary around the affected area on a map. These coordinates are used to identify and communicate with customers.

Managing Questions

The operator enters information that populates a special event web page and IVR phone system, including survey questions to effected customers.

Customer Side

Customers call the IVR phone number or visit the event web site and sign in as a part of the event. Customers respond to survey questions, including their preferred method of contact (text or phone call). Communications are then enabled.

Managing Customer Communications

Customer locations are displayed on a map, and the organization can now communicate with effected users. Throughout the event, operators send messages to registered users, which are delivered via text or automated phone call. The emergency web page and IVR phone system are automatically, simultaneously updated so that the public can access current information at any time.

The Dead Zone

If IRIS Tactical Devices are deployed, the devices will provide mobile hot spots that give access to the latest updates in areas with poor cell coverage, or if cell coverage is otherwise unavailable.
